Building a Gentle Morning Yoga Ritual
A realistic approach to morning yoga, from setting out your mat the night before to a ten-minute sequence that wakes you up kindly.
Written by Maya Bennett, Vinyasa & Flow

Morning yoga does not have to mean a 5 am alarm. A few minutes of mindful movement before the day starts can make the rest of it feel a little more spacious.
Make it easy to begin
Roll out your mat the night before, somewhere you will see it. Keep a warm layer nearby. Small cues like these make starting much easier.
A ten-minute sequence
Move slowly and breathe steadily throughout.
Two minutes
Seated breathing with a long, easy exhale.
Two minutes
Cat and cow, then a few slow side bends.
Three minutes
Two or three gentle sun salutations, keeping your knees soft.
Two minutes
Low lunge on each side, then a standing forward fold.
One minute
Stand in mountain pose and notice how you feel.
Keep it kind
Some mornings you will have energy for more, and some mornings two minutes of breathing is enough. Both count. If you would like company, our Morning Flow class runs four mornings a week.
